GunWax owner, Jacques Lotriet’s beard and tattoo lifestyle started after his time in the UK with a few tattoo pieces and when his beard was unable to gain momentum past the “stubble” phase.
“I unleashed my beastly mane and the revival in my need for skin art followed. I soon realised that a beard is not grown, it is forged and my beard needed some strong nourishing in the harsh African environment. My beard was getting hungry, fast and my body art needed protection”, describes Jacques.
Jacques’ mother is a pharmacist and has been experimenting with beeswax and macadamia nut oil for many years, treating anything from skin allergies to helping ladies look classy. “Chatting over the phone with my mom one night, she was commenting on the photos of my beard growth she spotted on social media and she challenged me to come up with a balm using macadamia nut oil and beeswax”, he continues.
Jacques pointed out that there too many people are using synthetic products on their bodies, and how important it is to know that your skin is the body’s largest organ. “What we apply to our skin absorbs into our bloodstream which affects the entire body”, he explains. “So with that being said, I was always taught that “if you can’t eat it, don’t rock it on your face or body!” he further describes. It wasn’t long after the conversation with his mother when Jacques paid her a visit and the result – GunWax beard and tattoo balm – South Africa’s first beard and tattoo balm with 100% raw Macadamia nut oil and triple filtered beeswax.
Beard Balm
The Beard Balm is a super hybrid of beard oil and beard wax. It has all the essential oils of beard oil that condition and revive your beard into a handsome and healthy part of your face but also provides the styling hold of beard wax. For most people, it’s fitting and economical to purchase a 50 – 60g beard balm to get both the benefits of beard oil and beard wax all in one rocking tin. It’s excellent for beards shorter than 1cm as well as your beastly mane! GunWax Beard Balm is available in two rocking fragrances: Fresh Lemon grass and Musky Neroli oil.
Tattoo Balm
Getting a tattoo is unlike any experience life can throw at you. Deciding on the artist, the artwork, the placement and the style are all part of what makes it more than a fad but rather, a lifestyle choice. Art is an expression of oneself where words don’t dare go. The days after you step out of the tattoo studio is when GunWax tattoo balm steps in. The Macadamia nut oil and beeswax, with its natural SPF, fuse to help absorb the ink deeper into the skin and prevents any scabbing, that would compromise the colour of the art piece. GunWax will help burst the colour and shading of your tattoo and prolong its edginess and life span. Note: start applying the balm the day after your tattoo session and thereafter as required.
