Purely Local CPT
As another beautiful Cape Town summer draws to a close and Autumn comes knocking at our door, we thought we’d dedicate this issue of Purely Local Cape Town to the ocean right on our doorstep.
There’s an entire world beneath the waves, and a few of our articles highlight the people that have made it their mission to demystify the deep. At the Save our Seas Foundation Shark Education Centre in Kalk Bay, school kids and young adults are inspired to become conservation champions after their introduction to the marine life that lives in False Bay. The team at the Two Oceans Aquarium is also all about education, and they share their experiences working at one of Cape Town’s most beloved attractions (with some of its cutest inhabitants!).
For those who want to spend more time in the ocean, Daniela Daines chats with us about freediving – an incredible activity that fosters an immense appreciation for the sea, and one she likens to meditation. Moving above the waves, the amazing Waves for Change is using surf therapy to promote mental health in Cape Town’s disadvantaged communities. And then, for those ocean-lovers that want to expand their knowledge, we’ve compiled a list of courses and activities for you to explore.
Into the deep
Have you ever been curious about freediving? Daniela Daines from Cape Town Freediving shares her insights into this incredible way of life.
Oceans of Inspiration
The Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Education Centre in Kalk Bay is all about sharing the wonders of the ocean with learners from visiting schools so they can become conservation champions!
What’s hot Cape Town
Things to do, places to go and people to see this month.
Beach Vibes
Celebrate the last of the summer goodness with plenty of swims, picnics and walks on our beautiful beaches – and support local brands while you’re at it!
Laid-back dining
The delightful suburb of Kalk Bay is home to plenty of attractions, from the iconic Dalebrook Tidal Pool to the bustling harbour and its sassy seals. But we love the area because of its always-enticing dining options. Here are two cafés we’re particularly fond of.
Fruits of the Sea
Located in the Hyatt Regency on buzzing Buitengracht Street, Urchin Restaurant by Chef Gerard van Staden is bringing Capetonians a fine dining experience with a coastal twist.
Sea what’s out there
What goes on behind the scenes when your office is in one of Cape Town’s biggest attractions, and you work with some of the best swimmers in town?
Catching the wave
By using surf therapy to promote mental health for children in under-resourced communities, Waves for Change is making a difference in the coolest way possible.
Immerse yourself
If you love spending time by the sea, in the sea and under the sea, why not enhance your experience with these courses?
Curious & Courageous Kids
Developing and building a child’s character, confidence, motivation and ownership of themselves and their schoolwork are very much dependant on parental input – take these steps to help your child tap into their own academic and learning potential.
Work less, live more
Could the Four-Day Week be the solution to decreased productivity and soaring stress-levels?
